Dr Alexander Rauch is a specialist in sports injuries and complex knee joint surgery. He specialises in the minimally invasive repair of sports injuries such as meniscus tears, cartilage damage or cruciate ligament tears using arthroscopic surgery (knee joint endoscopy) and joint-preserving procedures such as axis corrections (realignment operations).
Dr Rauch has been awarded the knee surgeon certificate by the German Knee Society and is head of the Official Knee Centre of the German Knee Society at the ECOM – Practice for Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine & Trauma Surgery and the ATOS Clinic in Munich. The sports orthopaedics, osteotomy and endoprosthetics sections are jointly covered by the specialists at ECOM to the highest quality.
As Head Physician for Sports Traumatology and Knee Surgery at the ATOS Clinic Munich and the ATOS Starmed Clinic, he can perform surgical procedures at two renowned locations.
Thanks to his high level of specialisation, particularly gentle operations are possible for patients, such as cruciate ligament replacement using the all-inside technique, which is the least invasive of the minimally invasive procedures and causes the fewest concomitant soft tissue and bone injuries. Regenerative procedures such as cartilage (cell) transplants can also usually be performed using the minimally invasive technique. For complex axis corrections (repositioning operations or osteotomies), the latest patient-specific 3D templates can be used to further optimise precision and therefore the result.
His expertise in this area is also underlined by multiple publications in prestigious specialist journals such as “Die Orthopädie”. He is a founding member of the Knee Expert Group (Knee Guild), an association of knee surgeons from German-speaking countries who regularly discuss and further develop new surgical techniques.
Memberships in the specialist societies of the Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA), the German Knee Society (DKG), the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) and the Bavarian Association of Sports Physicians guarantee a consistently high level of expertise and a lively exchange of knowledge in the specialist field.
As a sports enthusiast, Dr Rauch is involved in the medical pool of the German Ski Association as a team doctor for both the alpine and ski cross professionals in the World Cup. He also provided medical support to the FC Bayern Basketball professional team during the initial and development phase. The medical care of recreational athletes, amateurs and professionals has always been close to his heart in his work.
Dr Rauch has been a partner at ECOM® since December 2016. He studied in Munich at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) and the Technical University (TU). As part of his specialist training at the Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich, he was trained by Prof Dr Stöckle in trauma surgery and Prof Dr Imhoff in sports orthopaedics. After qualifying as a specialist, he moved to Landshut in 2012 to join Head Physician Dr Ganslmeier, where he set up a sports orthopaedics department as a senior physician. Here he specialised in the treatment of sports and joint injuries.
As a former competitive rowing athlete, he won various national championship titles and several finals at the German Youth Championships, as well as taking part in the Senior B World Cup. He was also active in ski racing and achieved a bronze medal at the Bavarian Junior Ski Championships in the slalom. The close connection to sport was therefore a given right from the start of his professional career.
