Extracorporeal magneto-transduction therapy (EMTT) is a gentle and pain-free treatment method that offers new options in therapy, rehabilitation and regeneration.Painful areas of the body are treated with very rapidly increasing and high-energy magnetic pulses. The therapy system builds up a voltage of between 15 and 30 kV within fractions of a second, achieving magnetic strengths of up to 80 mT. The energy generated is transferred to the areas of the body via the treatment loop.
The main difference to conventional magnetic therapies is that the changes in the magnetic field are built up very quickly in the form of pulses, which enables a biological reaction. The high pulse intensity penetrates cell membranes and manages to have a therapeutic effect in the cell by normalising membrane potentials. This means that EMTT is not comparable with conventional magnetic field therapies, which are significantly lower in intensity.
Depending on the setting, the impulses penetrate up to 18 cm deep into the tissue so that even deeper tissue layers are reached. As the individual pulses are of short duration, there is no temperature increase in the tissue.
Extracorporeal magneto-transduction therapy is used in various areas, including inflammatory joint diseases, degenerative joint diseases, inflammatory and degenerative tendon diseases, as pain therapy, for accelerated healing of bone fractures and for sports injuries. Very good results are also achieved with overload syndromes, bone oedema, stress fractures and inflammation of the pubic bone (osteitis pubis). It is also an ideal complement to extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT).
Treatment with ECOM is carried out on an outpatient basis and is painless. The treatment loop is positioned on the area of the body to be treated without the need to remove clothing. Direct skin contact is not necessary. The pulse strength is adjusted individually depending on the clinical picture. As a rule, the magnetic impulses are so high that the patient can feel the impulses without feeling any pain. Pacemakers and cochlear implants are an absolute contraindication! Patients with endoprostheses can be treated after prior consultation with a doctor.
Depending on the application, a magneto-transduction therapy session lasts approx. 10-15 minutes and usually comprises 8 sessions (ideally twice a week).
