Hip arthroscopy

Until a few years ago, arthroscopies of the hip were used purely for diagnostic purposes. Due to the special shape of the joint, the hip presented major access difficulties, as the joint lies very deep in the body and the acetabulum surrounds the joint head. Special access improvements have solved this problem. Nevertheless, hip arthroscopy is still a very specialised procedure on the hip joint that should only be performed by experienced and skilled surgeons.

During a hip arthroscopy, the arthroscope with a camera and light source is inserted into the joint through a small incision in the skin. The inside of the hip joint with the joint space between the head of the femoral neck and the joint socket, the femoral neck, the hip joint lip and the outer hip joint area enclosed by the joint capsule can thus be viewed.

After the diagnostic arthroscopy, the diseased areas are surgically treated via a second access using the smallest surgical instruments. Highly specialised hip experts can control these instruments and perform the most delicate procedures on the hip joint during the hip arthroscopy.

Timely treatment with hip arthroscopy can treat many hip diseases and prevent permanent restrictions. Common triggers and causes of hip arthrosis can be remedied in good time before the hip joint becomes stiff and immobile due to wear and tear.

APPLICATION OF HIP ARTHROSCOPY

Removal of free joint bodies from the hip joint

Treatment of cartilage damage in the hip joint

Treatment of hip arthrosis

Treatment of diseases of the synovial membrane of the hip joint

Treatment of constriction syndrome of the hip joint (hip impingement)
