Arthroscopy of the knee
Arthroscopy of the knee joint has become an integral part of modern surgery. It has revolutionized the treatment of knee damage and is now one of the most frequently performed arthroscopic procedures. The causes are usually meniscus damage, cartilage damage and cruciate ligament ruptures.
Knee arthroscopy usually requires only two incisions of only a few millimeters for the operation. The so-called arthroscope with camera and illumination is inserted into the knee joint via one of these accesses, allowing the interior of the knee joint, including all important structures such as the meniscus, cartilage and cruciate ligament, to be accurately assessed on a monitor.
Existing joint damage is repaired with special instruments that are inserted into the knee joint via a second small access. Experienced surgeons can thus operate on a wide range of injuries to the knee joint and treat them with high precision.
Timely treatment with arthroscopy can prevent protracted knee diseases and permanent limitations. In particular, the triggers and causes of knee arthrosis can be remedied in time before the knee joint becomes stiff and immobile due to wear and tear.
Application of knee arthroscopy
- Treatment of meniscus rupture
- Treatment of cruciate ligament rupture
- Treatment of torn patella tendon
- Stabilization for patellar instability/patellar dislocation
- Correction of axis misalignments (knock-knees and bow legs)
- Therapy of cartilage damage to the knee joint
- Treatment of knee arthrosis
